A la suite d'un cataclysme mondial d'ordre surnaturel, la terre est engloutie sous la boue. Les survivants tentent tant bien que mal de recréer une société. Ils se trouvent confrontés d'une part aux difficultés dues à un milieu de vie hostile, et d'autre part aux problèmes inhérents à la reconstitution du groupe social.
